Participant Information
Please read this before agreeing to take part in The Alchemy Lab’s free seven-day challenge.
Why we are running this challenge
We want to understand what personalized AI pronunciation feedback can add between a learner's regular English lessons. This is an early product experiment, not an exam, qualification, or replacement for a teacher.
Who can participate
Participants must be at least 18 years old and already be studying English through a school, university, structured online program, workplace course, or private tutor. Applying does not guarantee selection.
What you will do
Selected participants will complete seven short speaking activities over seven days, usually about ten minutes per day. You will receive AI-generated pronunciation feedback and be asked to compare the experience with your existing English instruction.
Recordings and AI processing
Speaking activities use your device's microphone. Your recording and activity response may be sent to Google's Gemini API for pronunciation analysis, transcription when an activity requires it, and AI-generated feedback. Supabase supports data and file handling, and Vercel hosts the application.
The Alchemy Lab does not use recordings to identify you or create a voiceprint. Raw pronunciation audio is processed without being stored unless human review requires playback or the activity explicitly enables 14-day recording playback. When 14-day playback is enabled, you and authorized staff may replay the recording until it is automatically deleted. Under the standard human-review policy, it is deleted when feedback is released or after 14 days, whichever comes first.
This challenge keeps its existing recording policy. The shorter 48-hour teacher-review window for new self-service trial workspaces does not change challenge or existing pilot recordings. Expired raw files are removed through automatic cleanup; failed removals are retried. The Privacy Notice explains playback deadlines and separate provider processing.
How we will use what we learn
We will use applications, activity results, and participant feedback to operate the challenge, understand the participant experience, and improve The Alchemy Lab. We may describe aggregated or de-identified findings. We will not publish your name, an identifiable quote, your recording, a testimonial, a case study, or an individual result without asking for separate permission.
Possible risks and limitations
AI feedback can be inaccurate, incomplete, or inconsistent. Recording your voice may feel uncomfortable, and online services always carry some privacy and security risk. Do not include sensitive personal information in an activity. Challenge results must not be used for admissions, employment, certification, discipline, or another high-stakes decision.
Your school or tutor
Your school or tutor does not need to participate. We will not contact them or share your application, recordings, responses, or results with them unless you separately ask us to do so. Joining or leaving the challenge will not affect your relationship with them.
Voluntary participation and withdrawal
Participation is voluntary and free. You may skip applying, decline an invitation, stop an activity, or withdraw from the challenge at any time. To withdraw or request deletion, email Luke@thealchemylab.ai. Information already combined into de-identified or aggregated findings may no longer be capable of being separated.
Retention and your information
Challenge applications, responses, scores, feedback, consent records, and related security information are normally deleted or de-identified within 12 months after the cohort ends. More detail about providers, international processing, security, and participant rights appears in the Privacy Notice.
